This is a personal tip blog with 5 free resources for new wedding photographers. When I was just getting started it was really helpful to have learned this information.

Don't stress yourself out when you're getting started. I'm 3 years deep in the wedding photography business and it does get easier. My #1 tip is to work on perfecting your website and SEO, instead of focusing on social media. Instantaneous likes are nice, but that's only immediate gratification. Building yourself up on Google is what is going to organically promote your business, and gain new clientele. Facebook Ads can be helpful, but if you don't have an optimized website for people to look at your portfolio & packages, you likely won't get that booking anyway. (...and yes, I learned this by experience!)
Offer free sessions and giveaways to build your portfolio. This is an excellent way to get to know your camera, as well as your personal shooting & editing style, (light and airy, dark and moody, true to color, warm...) If you are new to photography, be sure you can confidently shoot manual mode, having knowledge of the triangle of exposure and how to apply it, and what time of day to shoot. When the sun is high in the sky, it casts dark shadows and is known as "harsh light." Photographers search for "soft light." Soft light is when the sun is lower in the sky, and the best time of day to shoot is the hour leading up to sunset. Who doesn't love that warm glow? It radiates love! This is also a great time to get creative & practice your artistic abilities.
Customer service is EVERYTHING. Photography is definitely about art, and the quality of photos you deliver... But how you treat people is ALWAYS EVERYTHING. "People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." That quote is very true! I consider myself to be our client's personal assistant & cheerleader during their whole planning process. You need help finding florists, caterers, servers? I have your back. I am here for you every step of the way. You feel scared or overwhelmed and need to cry? I'm a phone call away. Be there for your clients!!
Under promise, and over deliver every time. You say 10 sneak peeks? Give 20-30. You say complete album to be delivered in 8 weeks? Strive to deliver in 4 weeks, Again, people will never forget how you made them feel. Delivering fast will make them very happy!
When printing photos for clients, utilize printing companies that have a wide range of color printing options. Printing from WalMart or CVS is NEVER, EVER going to work out well. They do not have the same capabilities as a professional printing company.
