Pride Month

With everything going on in the world, (like always but now more prevalent,) I want to talk about a couple of things and I figured, what better platform than this?

My favorite great uncle was gay. He was proud to be gay, long before the gay civil rights movement in '69. It made me proud of everyone who was "out," from a super young age. To not feel like you can be yourself? I couldn't imagine. No one should ever have to feel like they cannot be who they are. Love who they love. With you I will always stand.

Who protested for their rights? The LGBTQIA+ community. Who's protesting now? The black community. Make sure you're educating yourself if you don't know about systemic racism and police brutality in this country and how we got here today. I highly recommend watching the movie 13th on Netflix for an extremely informative and different view than we were taught in history class when we were little kids. Then, go deeper than that. Talk to people. Learn their stories, what they've been through. Donate. Protest. Get upset. Don't be silent.

People I love are gay. People I love are black and brown. They are some of the best people I know. I want to start calling people, people, too. But what happens when we ignore the oppression of a people? We're going to scream out. Because silence is violence. I may be a photographer but I am also a nurse and I have grown into being a 100% accepting human of all humans. But not tolerant of people who don't want to understand basic human rights. It is important to remember our history and to stand up against what is wrong, and change what can be better.

LOVE IS LOVE. HAPPY PRIDE MONTH. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU OLD SOULS WHO ARE STILL HERE TODAY & THOSE WHO ARE NOT, WHO WERE BRAVE, AND FOUGHT FOR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS IN '69 AND STARTED PARADES THE FOLLOWING YEAR, INSTEAD OF PROTESTS DUE TO ACKNOWLEDGING AND OVERCOMING THE PROBLEM!

No matter who you are.

No matter your background.

You're all beautiful.

Just be kind, and care.

xo
